Consideration Of Nonmonetary Contributions In A Divorce

Virginia Code §10-107.3(E) mandates the Court to consider both monetary and nonmonetary contributions performed by each spouse during the marriage when dividing the parties marital assets and debts. The following is a list of some of the nonmonetary contributions you may have made during the marriage:

Shopping for, planning and cooking meals Getting up in the middle of the night Career advising, entertaining colleagues and promoting spouse's career
Cleaning and maintaining home Changing their diapers Prepare breakfast, meals
Set up, serve and cleanup after meals Bathing and brushing teeth (personal hygiene) Hosting family get-togethers and events
Laundry for the family Child-care and counseling Taking care of and managing the household
Decorating for the holidays Read books, purchase and play educational toys, teacher Encouraging and supporting spouse
Shopping and cooking special meals for the holidays Arrange, host, take children to play dates Purchase gifts for birthdays, holidays, weddings, etc.
Planning, shopping and hosting family events/parties Primary care-taker of the children; child-rearing Give spouse massages when tense
Organizing BBQ's and other events with friends and neighbors Plan, schedule and attend extracurricular activities Schedule doctor appointments
Preparing a budget, financial planning, paying bills for the family Plan, schedule and attend school activities, sports Medical care and nurturing when ill
